IATA and Batec Handbikes

Monday, May 23, 2016

Dear users, clients and friends,

We are writing to inform you that the IATA (International Air Transport Association) has notified us that according to current regulations it is not possible to fly with the battery currently provided with the Batec handbikes

As many of you already know, over the past years there has never been a problem in traveling with a Batec. However, now due to the proliferation of large lithium batteries in all sorts of devices (drones, hoverboards, e-bikes, scooters, wheelchairs, etc.) here at Batec Mobility we believe that airlines are becoming stricter and stricter.

According to current IATA regulationsno batteries over 300Wh may be transported on commercial flights. The current batteries used by the Batec handbikes fall into this category, as they range from 324Wh to 396Wh depending on the model.

Here at Batec Mobility we are well aware of the problems this part of the regulations may cause our current and future users, including Batec Mobility employees, as we also use our handbikes. This is why we are working on a new optional battery fully adapted to current airline regulations. We expect the solution to be ready in the later part of 2016.

Best regards,

Batec Mobility
